The Importance of Universities with Online Degree Programs October 16, 2009

If there is a silver lining to the high unemployment rates due to the recession, it is the attention that is being placed on the importance of training, educating and retraining our workforce - and that cannot be done without accredited universities with online degree programs.

So Many Students, So Little College Accessibility

The United States hopes to double the number of college graduates in the coming years in an effort to increase the number of educated individuals who can contribute to the economy as leaders with a knowledge based education.

There is no way that the current college campuses can accommodate the sheer numbers of students wanting and needing such an education. That is where high quality, accredited universities with online degree programs comes in. Universities with online degree programs can offer the much needed online degree programs to the growing number of traditional and non-traditional students both nationally and globally.

Although online education still has a ways to go before it is perceived to equal the reputation and value associated with a traditional brick and mortar degree, it is becoming apparent that there is no way to educate the numbers of American (and other nations’) students without it.

Online Education is Big Business

Many education entrepreneurs have already begun investing time and money into accredited universities with online degree programs, seeing that they are the way of the future.  By buying accredited schools and investing in the degree programs most in demand, these entrepreneurs are seeing huge growth in student enrollment and, consequently, revenue.

One entrepreneur saw a need for online degree programs in health care since there were few programs yet many jobs available in the health care industry, especially as baby boomers retire and get older. By creating online programs in high demand careers such as radiology and billing & coding, students could get a diploma quickly and end up with a job paying $45,000 a year. In a recession, this type of program is essential.

Incentive for Universities with Online Degree Programs

Given the potential revenue generated by online programs due to their unique ability to reach large numbers of students who otherwise would not be able to get a college degree, it is in the interest of any quality school to invest in their online degree programs. Accredited universities with online degree programs have an opportunity to do a great service for millions of students and the country as a whole, maintaining a high level of quality while enjoying the profits.
