Elementary teachers have the unique opportunity to teach young children and provide them with the foundation of their education, preparing and presenting lessons in anything from geography to math to reading and how to tell time. The work extends beyond the classroom since elementary school teachers evaluate and grade students’ performance as well as communicate with parents and staff.
Education Requirements
Most elementary teacher positions require a bachelor’s degree in teaching or education, followed by a state license. There are some cases where bachelor’s degree holders in other fields can obtain a teaching license. Private schools have different requirements and many do not require a license but do require a bachelor’s degree.
