The study of theology is the study of God or the nature of God. A theology degree takes an in-depth look at the religions of the world; analyzing, comparing and discussing their traditions, dogmas, belief systems and literature. With a theology degree one can pursue church ministry, counseling or teaching. Theology degree holders can look to churches, religious organizations and non-profit organizations for potential positions.
Education Requirements
Bachelor’s degrees and master’s degrees are the most common pursuits for Theology. For teaching in private institutions, a bachelor’s degree is required. To teach at the post secondary level, a master’s degree is required. To pursue a ministry or faith-based career, entry-level positions require a bachelor’s degree but other positions may require a master’s degree or other training.
Job Outlook
Given the difficult times our country is facing, many people turn to their faith for comfort and strength, looking to their religious leaders for guidance. Christians are a large and thriving community and the demand for ministers and teachers is significant. Theology teachers will experience competition especially at the university level.
